This post is a cross college role and flexibility to travel to all centres is required.
Hours: 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, Term time plus 4 weeks
Fixed term until 31st July 2022
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pastoral Department within the Student Experience Directorate at Kirklees College. The role is cross college and flexibility to travel to other college sites is required of the successful candidate.
The overall purpose of the role is to facilitate and supervise small study groups to maximise engagement with learning opportunities including face to face and online delivery. You will provide students with support on a 1:1 basis, in small groups and through enrichment activities to enhance their academic skills development, knowledge relating to good mental health, positive attitudes, effective self-management and engagement with their programme including maths and English. Work collaboratively with and responsively to curriculum need to manage a caseload of students.
The ideal candidates will have previous experience of working with young people in an educational/ youth work or guidance capacity. You will have experience of 1:1 and small group work with young people and will need excellent communication skills. You will need to be a committed to the welfare of young people in education and be able to use your own judgement and initiative in complex situations leading to a successful outcome.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and educated to Level 3 e.g. BTEC, NVQ, A-Level equivalent. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
