We have a great opportunity at HMYOI Wetherby to join the education team as a Learning Support Practitioner on a permanent, full time (37 hours per week) basis.
HMYOI Wetherby in West Yorkshire, is a custodial establishment for Young People, aged between the ages of 15 and 18. There are currently around 280 young people in the YOI with an operational capacity of 320. All young people work towards English and Maths qualifications, as well as ICT, PSD, and vocational pathways which include construction, creative arts, hospitality and catering, business administration, industrial cleaning and horticulture. We also offer an Advice and Guidance service which helps our young people with post release opportunities.
The purpose of this role is to promote progression and independent learning by delivering high quality, literacy, language and numeracy, learner-focused learning support. This role will assist the teacher/trainer in managing the behaviour of individual learners by using engaging and inclusive learning experiences. To do this successfully you'll need:-
- To hold or be willing to work towards level 2 qualifications in literacy, numeracy within an agreed timescale
- To hold or be willing to work towards a level 2 or 3 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners within an agreed timescale
- To have an understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience
- To have a track record of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour
